Over the (Arctic) Circle

The next few posts for OtC will be written from Reykjavík, Iceland where the 2017 Arctic Circle conference will be taking place next week. Among the topics prominently featured this year include climate science, energy, infrastructure, networking, scientific cooperation, security, shipping, tourism, trade, and youth issues.

Among the keynote speakers for this year’s event are H.E. Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, Chairman of the Arctic Circle and former President of Iceland, current President of Iceland Guðni Th. Johannesson, Ségolène Royal, France’s Ambassador for the Arctic and Antarctic, Lin Shanqing, Deputy Administrator, State Oceanic Administration of the People’s Republic of China, Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of Scotland, Aksel V. Johannesen, Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands, and H.E. Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as senior Arctic representatives from the governments of China, Japan, the Russian Federation, and South Korea.
